Earlier this month, AVMI APAC gave up their time to help prepare hot nutritious meals for the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong. The half day charity event was hosted by Food Angel, a food rescue and food assistance charity aimed at rescuing surplus edible food that would otherwise be disposed of.
Following strict protocol, the team were educated on food hygiene standards before helping to prepare the raw ingredients rescued from several business across different food sectors. Hot boxes are made by a dedicated chef and a group of volunteers, before being sent to various districts across Hong Kong to serve those in need.

About Food Angel
Food Angel is a food rescue and food assistance program launched in 2011 by Bo Charity Foundation with the mission of “Waste Not, Hunger Not, With Love”.
The program rescues edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. Following strict safety protocols, the rescued food items will then be prepared as nutritious hot meals in our central kitchen and be redistributed to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
Food Angel rescues 35 tonnes of edible surplus food each week, and prepares 10,000 meals and 2,000 food packs daily. The support from our food donors is most important to our operation.
